The stand is located close to the southern boundary of the Deer Creek Hills Preserve. The plot is 300 m west of a dirt road running through the bottom of a shallow grassy valley between two patches of blue oak woodland. The plot is about 200 m south of a medium-sized creek that runs east to west across the preserve. The stand is dominated by blue oak with no shrub layer and an understory dominated by introduced grasses, Erodium botrys, etc.; The site is part of the Deer Creek Hills Preserve and is actively grazed by cattle. The site has been grazed by cattle for at least the last 40 years.
